Berluti: bespoke knows no bounds

Berluti special order event is ending soon and the rare opportunity to order archive styles at reduced surcharge would soon lapse. A casual stroll through your local store can nevertheless give you new shoe inspirations from time to time.

While their recent seasons' styles have been dominated by controversial "Edge" styles and signature canvas, the tuned-down versions of their edgy styles are subjectively wearable:

Berluti "Arthur Lateral" wholecut oxford with decorative stitching. The real shoes look much better than their website photo. This style definitely reminds one of Gaziano & Girling "Gable"

What is more interesting, however, is Berluti's small collection of bespoke samples at each retail outlet - usually no more than a few, but all exhilarating.

Captivating patina in shades of blue and violet. Very nuanced and tasteful.

A closer look at the lovely upper work. There is no 18 spi outsole stitching like the Japanese makers, but the ultra-detailed decorative punched holes (is it still called medallion/broguing?) is impressive.

Neat 360 degrees Norwegian stitching (left) and decorative stitching on the upper (left and right) resembling pick-stitching in tailoring.

Again, reminds one of certain Gaziano & Girling "Grendon". But this moss-green pair is actually a wholecut with a continuous row of raised stitching on the upper.
