TGC Shoes: the DIY patina

 

The final colour turned out to be one that I quite like. It could be due to the positive aesthetic influence Berluti had on me - my Visual Arts score has ranged from D to C+ since primary school.

Patina elevates shoes. If Olga Berluti were to comment on this statement, she would likely say that it is an understatement: "Shoes have a soul", she said. 

As anti-climatic as it could be, the DIY patina on this pair of shoes was the result of COVID-19.

Do NOT use this on your patina shoes! It contains alcohol!

After @shirtingfantasy casually sprayed this disinfectant spray on his brand new TGC pair, he witnessed the transformation of the pair into what could be the Kris Van Assche patina, the crying oak.


The only way to salvage the shoes, apparently, was to take off the wax and re-apply the patina. Wax was removed with limonene, and Saphir Teinture Francaise Dye was used. Skipping the boring details of dyeing and removing part of it by rubbing alcohol, here is the result:
