Are custom-made shirts items of exclusive luxury?
If you asked Mr Connor Lau of Esquire HK, the answer seems to be yes. He loves made to measure (MTM) shirts made from "Loro Piana Zenit" and "Holland & Sherry" - a taste and preference that would bemuse many. And such grand MTM would cost you North of HKD 1,800 (approx. USD 230). No small feat1.
"MTM shirts also an essential for men!" - a very bold claim @shirtingfantasy would like everyone to agree with |
The infomercial was, unfortunately, crafted in a rather unprofessional manner, citing Loro Piana Zenit (Super 200’s wool) and Holland & Sherry fabric as shirtings. |
For those who do not aspire to wear an essential yet HKD 1.8k-worthy shirt, you may be interested in the makers that @shirtingfantasy is going to review in the coming posts
HKD 130 (for making), one-week turnaround. Who is that? |
Do you accidentally know the maker?
Until then, stay tuned!
Footnote:
[1] Out of sheer curiosity, I recently visited the local Kiton boutique to ask for the quote of a bespoke shirt in fine cotton-linen voile - with 22 handmade steps. The price quoted was a staggering HKD 16,800 (approx. USD 2,140). Kiton seemingly stay true to their motto of "to find and do the best of the best plus one", especially when it comes to conjuring stratospheric price tags.
HKD16,800 for a shirt lol
ReplyDeleteI remember they quoted me HKD 5,000 or similar a few years back. Maybe that price was found to be inadequate?
ReplyDeleteHi Tom,
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the new post. Would you be elaborating more on the experience, the final fit (probably a few pictures), craftsmanship, quality of collar, cuffs, interlining used, possible pattern matching offered? And button hole quality
Sure!
